The Town hall of Azkarat, a village close to Donibane Garazi in Baxe Nafarroa, is promoting the creation of an International Center of the Diaspora in the castle of the locality. Among the organizations taking part in the project is EuskoSare. Next summer the Concordia organization - who specialize in organizing international programs of co-operation - will organize a group of collaborators to help in the rehabilitation and the restoration of the building. There are six spots for the Basque of the diaspora, who are to register through EuskoSare. If the number of applicants exceeds the number of places available, Concordia will take care of the final selection.
Azkarat is a small village located very close to Donibane Garazi, capital of Baxe Navarre. The Town hall of this village wanted to save an abandoned medieval castle which will be transformed into future International Center of the Diaspora, and will group Basque descendants who want to travel to their mother country.
EuskoSare whose initiative seeks to increase the bonds between the Basque of the world, supports - with other organizations - this idea promoted by the town hall. The objective is not only to create this center as a place of reception for the descendants of the Basque, but to transform a castle which will serve as a Basque cultural medium.
Currently the Concordia organization, specialized in organizing international trips for projects of co-operation, started the preparation of the voyage of a first quota of co-operators to work during the next summer to carry out tasks rehabilitation and restoration will propose the Town hall. The organization will be responsible for the accomidations of the trip.
The group of co-operators will be made on the whole of 20 people, 6 will be selected by Concordia among the requests carried out at EuskoSare. The co-operators could be protagonists of the work of recovery of this old castle so that it is divided by all the members of the Community Total Basque.
The program is organized in the following way:
Date: August 4 - 26, 2006
Application Deadline: July 17, 2006, 5 PM Euskal Herria time. Early applications encouraged.
The task to be carried out: One take part in various tasks of cleanling, painting, and dismounting damaged sectors, etc.
Working time: 5 hours daily, Monday through Friday.
Other activities: During some of the spare time, collaborators will take part in cultural Basque activities (txistera - joko garbi, making taloa, cider, etc...).
Conditions: Must be at least 18 years.
Costs: The participants one must pay their own roundtrip to to Euskal Herria and 22 euros for insurance.
Housing and meals: The Concordia organization and the Town hall will be given the responsability to offer lodging in the town (under rustic, clean conditions) and will pay meal expenses of meal.
